Maui Day 2: Water & Music

This day started much slower. I went on the whale watching tour offered by the Banana Bungalow, which did not leave until noon. I had some shaved ice, which I highly recommend, while I was waiting. Then we loaded up in the van and headed to Ma'alaea and the Pacific Whale Foundation.
The whale watching was very nice. The guides were knowledgeable, and the weather was nice. They even lowered a hydophone and we could hear the whales singing. None of the whales wanted to come close to us, so there were no close encounters, but we did see a mother and calf. And there was a small show just as we were heading in by a male trying to fly. And then the turtles put in an appearance as we neared the harbor.
From Ma'alaea, our guide took us to spend some time farther north. First we watched the windsurfers at the Ho'okipa Lookout for about 20 minutes, a nice way to relax, then we headed into Pa'ia to do some window shopping and eat. I had a fish burger of mahi mahi at the Pa'ia Fish Market. Pretty good, with a generous serving of fries to go with it. Then I wandered through the various shops along Baldwin and Highway 36. The Hemp House had a lot of nice products, and there were some interesting things in the various antique and art stores. But I really enjoyed the Maui Crafts Guild, across the street from the free parking at the west end of town. A wide variety of crafts, in a nice gallery owned and ran by the artists.
After this, it was back to the hostel. I got cleaned up and headed for the Jimmy Buffett concert. No cameras were allowed, so no pictures of the show. If you are a Buffett fan, just imagine being at his concert, outside, the palm trees blowing in a gentle breeze, with the moon and the stars shining down. It was better than that.
