Maui Day 1: Fish, Trees, and Dancing
My first day in Maui was rather full. I started
out leaving early for snorkeling at the Aquarium in south Maui. I
rented snorkel gear at Boss Frog's Dive Shop in Kihei, then drove south
until I ran out of road. Then I started hiking and taking pictures.
After finishing at the Aquarium, I checked out a
couple of other places that are supposed to have good snorkeling, but
the water was a bit too rough for my swimming skills, so I went back to
the Banana Bungalow to get cleaned up and changed. A quick shower, then
it was off to spend the afternoon and evening in Lahaina. The shops
along Front Street in Lahaina were pretty typical tourist places, but
they were still a lot of fun. But the best part was the Banyan Tree
Park and the Old Fort.
The evening was spent at the Old Lahaina Luau, at
the north end of Front Street. I made it at just about the right time.
Early enough to not be at the end of the line, but not so early I had
to stand waiting forever. The food was very good, and the show was both
very entertaining and very informative. Well worth the time and money.
