Hobart and Surrounds

I traveled to Hobart, Tasmania on the morning of the 29th. There were no direct flights, so I had to go by way of Melbourne. That extended the trip so that I didn't get there until early afternoon. I checked into the Hobart Vista Hotel and after getting settled, I started walking.

Walked down to St. David's Park (and I do mean down, the entire city is on hills and my hotel was not at the bottom of them) and read the various plaques and some of the tombstones. Downhill from there was Salamanca Place, full of galleries, shops, and cafes. I walked along the waterfront until I came to a group of restaurants, surprisingly they all served seafood 8) I ate at the downstairs Mures and had the very good fish and chips. The upstairs restaurant was much more expensive and supposed to have even better food. From there it was back to the hotel for the night.

Spent the morning shopping and getting some pictures developed. Had lunch at the restaurant in the hotel, very good fish and chips there also. I spent the afternoon on a tour of Richmond Village and Bonorong Wildlife Park. The Wildlife Park was great, lots of animals to pet and look at. Richmond was interesting with a lot of shops and historic buildings, but we didn't spend much time there.

Went to the Wrest Point Hotel Casino that night and ate at a buffet there that had quite good food. I also ended up losing about $30 at the blackjack table.

The next two days are covered on this page.
